Renee & Michael

Renée and Michael’s wedding day is a perfect example of all the reasons why we love our job so much!

We were looking forward to this one before we even arrived: an American couple having a destination wedding in Portofino on the Riviera Ligure (Italy). An area famous for its beautiful ocean and countless picturesque villages with their fishing traditions and rows of colourfully painted houses lining the shores.

It got even better after our first skype call with the bride to be, Renée was easy going and friendly but when we met the couple in Italy, on the eve of their big day, is when we really fell in love with them.

It was a privilege to photograph and film for such a lovely and kind couple with their amazing circle of equally fun and wonderful family and friends.

The locations were stunning, the weather was exactly what you would expect from Italy in late spring and the event management by our friends at Italian Special Occasions was impeccable. Giulia even got to practice some of her own management skills by coordinating the drivers on the way from preparation to the ceremony (in her native Italian)!

After a morning of scouting out the location of the church, we joined Renée in the early afternoon at the Eight Hotel in Portofino, shooting and filming bridal preparation on a flowery terrace, bathed in the warm May sun. Later we moved to the villa where the groom and the rest of the wedding party were getting ready.

The ceremony took place in a church full of art and tradition in the tiniest village on the hills, Santa Vittoria Ligure, the same church where 70 years earlier Michael’s grandparents tied the knot. The evening reception was held on the beach of the Eight Hotel in the Baia di Paraggi with a lovely view on the sea, perfect for Sam to fly the drone and get some aerial footage, and typical Italian aperitivo and dinner.

The whole day was filled with love, joy, laughter, great anecdotes, emotional moments and some tears. We shed a few ourselves throughout the speeches (and Sam shed countless more editing them). It all ended with some crazy dancing on the beach and some midnight swimming in the sea just after we left.

We are very happy to have met Renée and Michael and shot their authentic Italian wedding, their love is so genuine and heartwarming and the great empathy they share makes for a perfectly suited couple and great friends. We have some great memories after a day that proved to us we’ve chosen the right profession and we wish them all the best in the years to come.
